Before I started living a diet free life, I used to fast on the morning of Thanksgiving, saving my stomach for all the delicious food I was anticipating. My favorites are the mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, green bean casserole....ok, pretty much ALL of the staples in an American Thanksgiving dinner! But...my Grandma Sellers's candied yams were the BOMB and still are, thanks to my brother, Mark, who has been passed the candied yam making baton from my dad. Speaking of, I should get the recipe and post it here in my blog so you can try it...it is seriously that good! Oh! And I can't forget the Turkey...yummy delicious turkey.... Now, I'm not against fasting. I fast for religious reasons every month, but fasting on Thanksgiving is not a good idea and here's why: when it's finally time to eat, I binged, eating way too much, putting my body in fat storing mode and feeling sick in the process! In my mind, I thought that fasting before Thanksgiving dinner would help counter weight gain, but this turned out to be incorrect! After learning the principles of the Diet Free Life methodology, I now have tips I can share to help you enjoy delicious food on Thanksgiving AND keep your body in fat burning mode!

1. Make sure to eat a fat burning breakfast! Studies show that people who don't skip breakfast in the morning tend to eat fewer calories during the day. This helps keep the binging at bay. Also, be sure to be eating every 2 to 3 hours!

2. Divide your Thanksgiving meal into two meals! Most people I know eat Thanksgiving dinner at late lunch. What I do is, I make one fat burning meal at lunch, then another at dinner. This way, I enjoy extra turkey, and most of my favorite fast carbs.

3. Split fast carbs in half, if you want more than one kind of fast carb. You can take half a serving of stuffing, and half a serving of mashed potatoes to make one full serving of fast carbs, for example!

4. Eat your pie as a snack! If you like more than one kind like I do, take little slivers to sample! You could also have pie as your fast carb in a meal as well!

5. Most of all, enjoy!! This is a time for a thankful heart and mind, as well as spending time with those we love.

I hope these tips help you like they help me! Let me know how it goes...in the meantime, I must get that recipe!
