Halloween in the USA is a fun day! Kids dress up in scary or happy costumes. In our elementary school, we have a parade in the morning and parties in classrooms during the day. There are treats galore! Cookies, candy, donuts, apple cider. Then in the evening, we hit the neighborhoods to trick or treating, which of course, equals MORE treats and candy! It can be very hard to keep my body in fat burning mode on Halloween...and let's be honest, the two months following! Because I love candy and treats, I decided to make a different strategy for Halloween this year.

Instead of buying my usual giant bag of chocolates, I bought small bags of pretzels and Dum Dums to hand out to Trick or Treaters. These are things I can pick or choose to eat, or not. Because I am living a Diet Free Life, I still wanted a treat, and life is about enjoying, so I bought myself a bag of my favorite candy bar, Almond Joy! I can eat 1 serving, which is 100-200 calories for a woman, and I will still enjoy my Halloween treat!

Most diets will tell you NOT to touch the candy. Their strategy? Don't even think about it!! Put out veggies instead (which is not a bad thing, I LOVE veggies)! If you're like me, you will have thoughts of yummy candy in your mind while eating the veggies, really wishing you had that Almond Joy, instead! Then because I was told I can not even have one piece of candy, I would eat 200 pieces, then beat myself up over it for days afterwards. This is no way to live! Knowing I can have candy, if I want some, has been very freeing!

What strategies do you use to help you avoid the candy binge on Halloween? I would love to know!
